Split one recorded trip into segments
Use segments when the purpose changes during a journey. The split follows points in the recorded trip; it does not combine separate trips.

The segment editor is only offered when the trip has enough recorded track data.
Open trip details from Trips or the review queue. Split into Segments (or Edit Segments) appears only when the track has at least three points, allowing an interior split.
A manual trip or a trip without track data cannot be split. Segments divide one existing trip; they do not join trips or create a route.
- Open the trip and review its Route area.
- Look for Split into Segments or Edit Segments among the trip actions.
- If neither appears, check whether the trip has a recorded route and enough track points.

Use the slider to place the boundary inside the recorded track.
In Segment Trip, the Split point slider moves through the recorded track. The display shows the selected point and total points. The slider starts inside the trip and reaches the final recorded point; it cannot place a boundary after the trip ends or create an empty segment at the start. Review the trip’s Route area before opening the segment editor, then use that route as a guide for the slider; the editor itself does not display a map.
Tap Split Here to divide the selected segment. Both new pieces initially keep the original segment type. The split marks a boundary in the existing track; it does not change the recorded GPS points, recalculate the route, or guarantee a particular distance for either piece.
- Before opening the editor, review the trip’s Route area; use it to identify where the purpose changed.
- Check the displayed point number, then tap Split Here.
- To undo a misplaced boundary, merge the later segment with its previous segment, then split again at the intended point. Check the type afterward: a merge keeps the earlier segment’s type.

Choose the correct classification for each side of the boundary.
Each segment appears as a row with its point range and a type picker. Tap the type and choose Business or Personal as appropriate. Splitting creates two pieces with the previous type as their starting value, so explicitly check both rows; the app cannot infer why you made the journey.
If adjacent segments end up with the same type, use Merge with previous on the later segment to join those neighboring pieces. The merge applies only to adjacent segments that meet at the same track boundary, and it keeps the earlier segment’s type. It is not a way to merge unrelated trips.
- Review every segment row from the beginning of the trip to the end.
- Set Business or Personal for each segment; check inherited types instead of assuming they changed.
- Merge neighboring segments only when they have the same purpose and you want one continuous segment.

Saving replaces the segment breakdown attached to this trip.
Tap Save in the navigation bar when the boundaries and types are correct. The editor saves the segment list and closes. If there is no track, the editor explains that the trip cannot be split; if the track has too few points, it disables the split control and explains why.
Reopen Edit Segments to make sure the number of segments, their order and their types are right. Then review the trip in the log or report. If a change is needed, edit the segments and save again; the trip itself remains one trip.
- Tap Save once after checking all rows.
- Open Edit Segments again and verify the saved boundaries and types.
- Check the trip’s review or report to confirm how the classification is presented.
