Check that Car VAT is offered

Car VAT is available for Germany, Austria, Sweden, Poland, Estonia, Portugal, Spain, Slovenia, Croatia and Malta. It is not offered when How you use this car says you are an employee. The Netherlands has its own VAT card.

Answering No hides the invitation, but an existing record stays visible.

  1. Open Settings → Country and check the country and How you use this car.
  2. Tap Additional calculations, choose the Year and find Car VAT.
  3. Answer Yes to Do you claim VAT on business vehicle costs? Use the Car picker to answer for a single car.

Answer the questions for the year

The estimate needs a full calendar year. Open Reports and choose the year. With one car chosen, the card Car VAT · your country offers Set up car VAT, or Edit car VAT once you have a record. Without a car filter, a Car VAT card lists each car with Set up or Edit.

The screen is for a VAT-registered business. Each country's rules have been reviewed only for some years, so another year says it is not reviewed.

  1. In Reports, choose the calendar year and a car.
  2. Tap Set up car VAT, then Set up VAT year if the screen asks.
  3. Answer the questions, such as VAT registration, How the business got it, Powertrain and the Private-use method.

Add the car's invoices

Enter the VAT shown on a proper invoice in the business's name. Insurance, vehicle tax and fines carry no VAT: enter them as No VAT. Mileage allowances carry no input VAT.

For electric cars, zero emission follows the propulsion set on the vehicle. The app never guesses these answers from the trip log.

  1. Under Car invoices, tap Add invoice.
  2. Choose the Type, the Cost and the invoice date, then enter the Amount excluding VAT and the Invoice VAT.
  3. Tap Save. Fix any line marked Review invalid car invoice amounts.

Read the estimate

The Estimate section states the deductible amount and the method used. If an answer is missing, it says Insufficient data — no amount is stated, and no amount is shown.

Make a new report after you change an answer.
