Use HMRC fuel rates and quarterly updates

For a UK company car, the fuel decides the rate. For a sole trader, DriveHub shows the tax-year band and exports each quarter from 6 April.

Set the fuel on a company car

HMRC publishes advisory fuel rates for company cars only. For a company car whose fuel you pay for, DriveHub needs the fuel and the engine size. Without them it prices no advisory rate rather than guess one.

  1. Open Settings → Vehicles and your car.
  2. Under Whose car is this?, choose Company car, I pay for fuel.
  3. Under What is this vehicle?, set Fuel. Then choose Fuel for HMRC's rate, and add the engine size where the screen asks. Not chosen yet prices no rate.

Read the 10,000-mile band

Reports shows a step such as miles left at the current rate, with a Tax year button. It opens Tax year 2026/27: Claimable so far, the business miles and a forecast of when you pass the band.

The screen explains one allowance a tax year across all your cars and vans: the higher rate for the first 10,000 business miles, 25p after. It also notes 5p a mile per fellow employee on the same business journey, paid by your employer, not claimed. The allowance starts again on 6 April.

  1. Open Reports and find the band step under Ready to file?.
  2. Tap Tax year and read Claimable so far and the forecast line.

Export a quarterly update

Making Tax Digital applies to a sole trader (Self-employed, my own car). Each update is cumulative from 6 April, and the export covers the same span.

Tapping Export on a quarter returns you to Reports with that period chosen. It is called Making Tax Digital quarter, from 6 April.

  1. In Reports, open the Tax year screen and find Quarterly updates.
  2. Tap Export beside the quarter you need.
  3. Check the period says Making Tax Digital · cumulative, then preview and share the report.

Your employer pays per mile

An employee can state what the employer pays per mile. Where it is less than HMRC's rate, the report shows the difference you can claim as Mileage Allowance Relief.

  1. Open Settings → Country and find Your employer pays per mile.
  2. Enter the amount in pounds, for example 0.45 for 45p. Or set This employer pays on each employer.
