SUPPORT / HOW TO

Save places and give them rules

A place name helps you read the log. Its role and classification rule answer different questions.

01 / 04

Name an existing destination or add one

Open Places, or Settings → Tracking & detection → Places & rules. Regular destinations can appear as discovered places. Naming one makes it easier to find; you can also add a place manually.

  1. Open a discovered destination and give it a name, or use Add a Place.
  2. For a new place, use Find by Address or move the map to put the pin at the actual destination.
  3. Enter a clear name, check the pin and save the new place.

02 / 04

Choose the role separately from the trip type

Role describes what the place is: Home, Work or No role. Rule decides whether future trips starting or ending there are filed as Business or Personal. No rule leaves those trips to the usual classification and review. There is at most one Home and one Work role; assigning either moves that role from the previous place.

  1. Use Home or Work only for the place that has that role in your life.
  2. Choose a Business or Personal rule only when it accurately describes journeys involving that destination.
  3. Use No rule when those journeys vary. A workplace role does not by itself establish that a journey can be claimed as business mileage.

03 / 04

Check what falls inside the circle

Trips whose endpoints fall inside the circle can match the place. Too large a radius can cover an unrelated neighbouring destination; too small a radius can miss the parking area you actually use. The map shows the area you are setting.

  1. Open the place and compare its pin with the actual arrival or departure point.
  2. Adjust Radius so the destination and its usual parking area fit without unnecessarily covering other places.
  3. Review the next trips involving the destination and correct their type if needed.

04 / 04

Review older trips after a rule change

Changing a place rule applies to future trips; past types stay as they are. Deleting a place also removes its rule across synced devices while retaining recorded trips. Removing a rule is enough when you want the usual review again.

  1. For an incorrect past type, open the trip itself and correct it.
  2. To stop forcing a type, set the place to No rule. If you delete the place, read the confirmation first.
  3. Re-export a report if a past trip’s type or printed details changed.
